I went yesterday to the county voter registration office, which is the only location available during the vote-absentee-without-an-excuse period. So why did I get special privileges? )

I told my tale of privileged voting at Weight Watchers, and got back the tale of another WW member who went Thursday morning and found a 2-hour wait, so left and went back at 6 PM on the advice of the poll workers. However, it still took her over 2 hours to vote--she came tearing in the door at WW just as they were closing that evening at 8:30, almost too late to weigh in.

I voted on the way to work, a little before 9 AM. Found a message from Hillary Clinton on my answering machine this evening, left at around noon. Of course, I didn't listen to it until 7:30 PM or later--certainly after the polls had closed.

Hopefully that will be the last call until we start up again closer to November. Maybe I can arrange another week out of town in late October...

The disadvantage of being out of town the week before election day is not being able to do early voting.

The advantage is missing the calls, auto-dialed or not, begging you to vote for Candidate X. Unfortunately, I didn't miss them all. There were 2 messages (maybe 3--the third was cut off and I declined to try to figure it out) supporting Hillary Clinton on my answering maching when I got home. Over the weekend I got one call on Barack Obama from a real person, and another auto-dialer for Clinton. No calls for Republican candidates--this is a strongly Democratic enclave in very Republican Georgia.
