[ID: a tiktok by ahmad_ma12 shows four guys standing in a line. In each of their mouths is the head of a rubber chicken. Each person has a rubber band around their calf. The second person in line snaps the rubber band and if the first person doesn’t set off their rubber chicken they move to the back of the line. If they groan and the chicken goes off then they laugh and the person behind them snaps them again until they’re able to take it quietly and the next person moves up. /end]
Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!
Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

I mostly post about… my daily life - work (international school librarian) and school (MA Humanities, Self Designed - focusing on imagination as a form of escape from capitalism) but my conversion journey to Judaism, also pretty flowers I saw today; interesting things I read; Shinto shrines I visited; and my cat, Tiamat.
The hobbies I'm trying to monetize/professionalize are… writing - picture books, poetry The hobbies I'm not trying to monetize/professionalize are… crochet, writing - queer romance, doll photography, indie web design, getting my nails done
I'm looking to meet people who… are adults (21+ only, non-negotiable because of my day job), post about your daily life (whatever that looks like), interact occasionally (I don't expect comments on every post!), and aren't -ist/-phobic, you know? no transphobes, no biphobes, no Islamophobes, etc. welcome here!
My posting schedule tends to be: I post at least once a day most days, often more; I use the "Don't show on Reading pages" ticky-box for inane thoughts or when I'm really on a hypergraphia tear and try to put excessively long posts under a cut.
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: (See above, and…) I am a genderqueer asexual lesbian converting to Judaism [with a non-Zionist rabbi] so I think you can guess. If you voted for the current U.S. president or you are very concerned about """fairness in women's sports""" but aren't talking about the pay disparity between the NBA and the WNBA we are not going to get along.
Commenting expectations: I post a lot but I don't expect comments on every single thing! I try to comment when I have something to say but I won't spam you.
Something something shinigami/arrancar/Quincy/whatever reiatsu not only has colors but textures, opacity, motion etc. Like colors and flavors, everyone *broadly* agrees on what an individual’s aura is like, but also everyone is sensing that aura directly with their brain, not with a sensory organ, and so the vocabulary to describe the sensory impression of aura is non-existent and people make do with the sensory and figurative vocabulary they have. It also means that the same aura can have WILDLY different notes and connotations from one perceiving individual to the next
hey! we thought this might be coming and here it is. and it sucks! mass vaccination is one of our best tools at preventing the spread of COVID. public comment is open until 11:59 PM EDT on the 23rd of May.
you can leave an anonymous comment, but usually non-anonymous ones do carry more weight.
Do you want your healthcare workers and first responders to be able to get covid vaccines so they don’t give you covid when you see them and so they’re not themselves sick and needing sick days to recover, leaving healthcare and public services facilities short staffed? I want a fully staffed hospital, fire station, police station, etc.
Do you want public servants like utility workers and agency staff and park rangers to be able to get vaccinated against covid so they’re not sick instead of fixing our roads and bridges and sewers and power grid and giving us access to public resources like public benefits and public parks? I want those fully staffed too.
Do you want teachers and childcare workers to be able to get covid vaccines so they don’t get such e and need sick days and so they don’t get sick from all the kids they see? I want a fully staffed school and fully staffed daycare.
Do you want families with little kids who weren’t old enough to get a covid vaccine to access boosters for the older kids and the parents to help keep the little kids safe? I don’t want to give my baby cousin covid at his birthday party.
Do you have any immune compromised people in your extended family? Cancer patients? Dialysis patients? Organ transplant recipients? I don’t want to kill them.
This is a big fucking problem. Tell the FDA that this will negatively affect you. Public comments, whether under your name or anonymously, must be considered by the FDA. Get your comments in by May 23 at 11:59pm Eastern.
Example comment but most importantly, you do you!!! This is just an idea:
RegardingDocket No. FDA-2025-N-1146, I live in [state] and I oppose the proposed rule restricting covid vaccine access.
The covid vaccine has been proven safe and effective by scientists around the world, including in the United States. I am not elderly or immune compromised, so under this proposed rule, I will not be able to access the covid vaccine.
I want access to the covid vaccine because I [choose as applicable]
Don’t want to miss school because I got sick with covid so I want to get the vaccine to help me stay healthy
Don’t want to miss work because I got sick with covid [and I can’t afford to miss work because I don’t have paid sick leave or have limited paid sick leave] so I want to get the vaccine to help me stay healthy
Don’t want to get sick with covid because I have childcare/eldercare responsibilities so I want to get the vaccine to help me stay healthy
Don’t want to get sick with covid because I/my partner am/is hoping to become pregnant in the next year and covid would damage my/her health during the pregnancy
Have family members who are [choose: elderly /cancer patients /dialysis patients /immune compromised /too young to be vaccinated] and I want to protect them from covid by getting vaccinated myself
Want healthcare workers, essential workers, scientists, and first responders to be able to choose to get vaccinated so they can better protect themselves from covid and from accidentally spreading covid in our community and not transmitting covid when my family needs health care
Want teachers and childcare workers to be able to get vaccinated so that they don’t get covid and don’t accidentally spread it to children who can’t get vaccinated, and so they don’t have to miss work because they are sick and instead the schools have to find substitute teachers
Want my health insurance to pay for my vaccination, which is less likely if the FDA changes to the proposed rule, instead of me paying for it out of pocket
[something else that matters to you]
I strongly oppose the proposed rule in Docket No. FDA-2025-N-1146. I should be able to choose the safe and effective covid vaccine for myself so I can protect myself and people I care about.
I like the template above (thank you for it), but I changed every use of COVID with COVID-19 (and it also should be capitalized) specifically to fall in line with the wording of this regulation, but I also tailored each and every bullet point to show that I’m not just using myself as the example for why I disagree, but every possible reason I can give for why we, collectively, should maintain access.
I was trying to hold off on asking for help in hopes things would be fixed sooner rather than later, but unfortunately the issue is still an issue and AT best it won’t be resolved for another couple weeks. (And even then it’ll probably only be partially resolved for awhile longer.)
Without getting super into the weeds of the problem, due to how old the paycheck system for the Forest Service is, I’m getting shorted about $381/check. So far, I’ve been shorted about $1,600 total. I will eventually be getting that money as backpay, but how and when is a total mystery at this point. This has nothing to do with the current administration, it really is just because the FS pay system is so janky and outdated. (Though I’m sure it would’ve gotten fixed faster if so many people hadn’t been forced out of their jobs…)
I’m hoping to raise about $1,000 to help pay a few of the bills I’ve fallen behind on due to this issue, and tide me over until the issue gets resolved. Any amount really does help. I’ll reblog this post with more details if anyone wants them, I just want to keep the core post cleaner.
Thank you to anyone who donates, or even just boosts! I’ll try and keep this initial post updated with the total.
if there’s one thing i appreciate about americans, its that they are DELIGHTED by “american love burger” jokes. they cant get enough of them! much like how they cant get enough of burger……
my notes are now full of americans talking about their love for burger. peace and love on planet earth.

Shawn and I have made this trip to Connecticut (and back again) five times. Once to move Mason in, and then four times now to move him out. We have never, ever been able to see anything more off the coast of Connecticut than mist. I was pretty sure that the whole fog-of-nothingness/evil was supposed to be a Stephen King thing for Maine, not Connecticut, but here we are, our fifth trip, and there is clearly NO OCEAN OFF THE COAST. It is all greyness and LIES.
But, we managed a fun sight seeing trip anyway.
We went to Mystic, CT, bringing along with us both Mason and his partner Jas.
Mason, our grad, (left) and Jas (right) at the Black Sheep in Nantic, CT.
The Seaport Museum was probably an interesting choice given the foul weather, and, honestly, I would have hoped that pouring rain would mean that we'd have the place to ourselves. No, every school group in the history of school groups were all there, making trying to get into the litttle faux village shops somewhat of a crapshoot. It was a lovely little space, though. Mason and I explored the whaling ship and I got inspired to do a better job explaining how cramped berths on sailing ships (in my case space ships) can be.
I'm going to say, however, that my favorite thing was seeing a family of geese and their three little goslings.
And getting to see Mason hanging out with the person he calls "love."
We did not get any packing done today, but the four of us got very moist and a little cross, so it's back to the AirBnB for us. Clothes are in the dryer and my wet toeies are tucked under the covers. We are giving up for the day, with only dinner out for plans. I wish we'd had better weather, but we had excellent company and that's what it's all about.
I didn’t see this link in the reblogs but I love Mercury and she has a book out called “Safe & Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair”. She is one of those beautiful souls who love to teach people new skills with compassion and joy, instead of putting down others for not having knowledge about (what others may consider basic home repairs and DIY.
