What to see in Portland (Oregon)?

I've got a work trip to Portland (Oregon--last year I had one to Portland, Maine) in May, and I've decided to go out a little early and see some of the city. Anyone on my flist know the city and have recommendations for what to see?

I'm flying in on Saturday, May 13, getting in around noon. I'll have Sunday and Monday to sight-see, as my meeting doesn't start until Tuesday. My first thoughts are to spend one day seeing the zoo, the rose gardens, and other things in the Washington Park area, and the other day more downtown--Powell's, Chinatown (good places for dim sum?), the waterfront, etc. I'll be staying at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront on Naito Parkway, which looks like it will make it easy to use the free zone for Portland's transit system to get around. I'm not planning to get a rental car.

You already beat me to Powells -- plan on at least several hours and a lot of stuff to ship home, it's inevitable.

The rose gardens probably won't be much to look at yet, but Washington Park is gorgeous in general, so that's not a big deal unless you really had your heart set on roses. Rhodies, OTOH, should be at their peak.

You should contact [livejournal.com profile] cflute [possibly through the Echo's Children website] & see if she's up for lunch, dinner, or something. She might have some good recs too. If nothing else, I know she bikes, so she'd know about the transit thing.

Have a fun trip! [It's too bad you'll have to miss the Atlanta Celtic Festival, though; lots of cool bands will be there.]
