Just a few minutes ago Fish came over to play with Fred. All evening he's continued to hiss at her at every approach--the smell of the vet hospital (imperceptible to me) was really long-lasting.

Whoops, one more growl. Maybe that was "Kitten, you're a pest" and not "Who are you, you smell funny."

Agatha has used the funny smell to re-invigorate the hissing she never completely dropped. I think she, a natural beta, is trying hard to retain seniority over the newcomer. So far it's working...

Is Fish on medication? That's probably what's making her smell funny to the other cats for so long, at least IME. Usually the hissing goes away as soon as the medication is over.

All she had was the half-tablet of pain medication the evening she came home. (It was Fred, not Fish--this "2 cats with 4 letter names beginning with F" is turning out to be somewhat confusing to all, added to the "girl named Fred" too....)

The hissing reaction finally quit yesterday afternoon sometime, though, for whatever reason, and Fish and Fred are back to companionably playing together. I was beginning to get a little worried there for a while!
