More cabinet work

Work on uninstalling and re-installing the cabinets is proceeding. The granite countertop templating has been put off until tomorrow, which is a good thing because I called Betsy this morning to say "the island is looking better, but it's still only 30" wide after Jack built an extension on the 24" cabinet". It seems that he was tripped up by the same inaccurate drawings made by a cabinet supplier that (in small part) also led astray the incompetant installer. He has today to rebuild it to add the extra 6 inches, so I'll have a 6' x 3' island in the end.
Looks like they had to reposition the sink cabinet as well--the holes in the back have been re-cut about 6 inches to the left. Probably lots of other shifting went on that I just can't tell...
Just called Betsy to tell her that the high cabinet over the oven is supposed to have vertical dividers, not horizontal shelves. That means the cabinet was shipped wrong, so she'll either have to re-order or have Jack and crew re-tool what they did ship. I guess I'd better check the cabinet over the fridge location tonight as it was to have more shelves than the standard, for baking pan storage.

Date: 2006-06-14 05:10 pm (UTC)I'm also trying to not think about Better Ideas that cross my mind, like "gee, couldn't I have put a 12" deep cabinet back-to-back with the 24" to make the island, and had some nice shallow shelf space?" Which would require more tearing out, a 2-3 week delay while the new cabinet was ordered, and another wait on the granite guys. Assuming they even make a 12" deep base cabinet...
