Fish update

Fish is doing OK after his surgery. They will keep him through the weekend, probably trying him on something akin to baby food tonight to see if his stomach will tolerate it. I'll call Monday to see if he can come home then.

The vet didn't actually find anything in the stomach or intestine. It seems the pre-op shot of laxative must have moved the last piece of string--they saw one in his morning bowel movement. But the morning X-ray was still inconclusive, and so the vet went ahead with the surgery. Better safe than sorry, especially given how sensitive cat bowels are to strings and such.
