We've had 2-3 days so far of effects from Tropical Storm Fay--windy, cloudy, and occasionally very light rain. But given our continuing drought, I could (cautiously) wish that we'd had a little more--if only Fay had tracked to sweep more rain bands across Atlanta, and the watershed north of Atlanta.

And while I don't really want severe flooding, the thought of a storm perching over the upper Chattahoochee River basin and dumping 20 inches of rain has some real attractions...

I feel somewhat robbed. I mean, they -promised- us 2 days of solid rain!! And then the gulf -- which doesn't need it -- -STOLE- our tropical depression!

same here. we was robbed! I don't think we got more than a quarter of an inch of much needed rain.

True--while there are all the pedestrian connectors, moving DragonCon's masses of fen through them isn't really feasible. And I guess not everything's connected anyway...

Have a great time. I'll be at the Decatur Book Festival off and on over the weekend, as I think I've decided it's not worth trying to duck into DragonCon for a panel or signing or two. And that's about my tolerance level for DragonCon's level of crowds.

For two or three days, the 5 day forecast showed the center coming straight up through Atlanta and onto the north Georgia watershed, but then they all sagged to a westward track. It isn't just a matter of water running into Lake Lanier, but of soaking the ground, and raising the water table so that Lanier can fill up.

Well (putting on my hydrologist hat), water running into Lanier would be pretty effective. Not that raising the water table back to 'normal' and thus increasing base flow isn't a good thing, but we need significant inflow from major rains. I suspect the clay base of Lanier is sufficient to retain water from storm inflow and not lose major amounts to the surrounding ground-water system.

Ooh, thank you. I'd much rather have facts to think with, and that corrects my assumption.
