I just wish the contractor did more of this checking against the very detailed plans, and I didn't feel so pressured to do it. But that's the reality of hiring a contractor (or maybe of paying someone else to do almost anything for you)--you'd better check up behind them to be sure you get what you want.
I'm also trying to not think about Better Ideas that cross my mind, like "gee, couldn't I have put a 12" deep cabinet back-to-back with the 24" to make the island, and had some nice shallow shelf space?" Which would require more tearing out, a 2-3 week delay while the new cabinet was ordered, and another wait on the granite guys. Assuming they even make a 12" deep base cabinet...
